The 5 dumbest attacks in a street fight

Today,I want to tell you about some of the worst
attacks that I have ever come across.

I don't mean PERSONALsituations, I'm talking about the most common
attacks that happen on the street, time and time again.

Not only am I going to show you them, I'll also show you the
fastest and easiest ways to use them AGAINST an attacker. But
first, let me answer some questions from readers:

READER'S QUESTION >>>

"I get really nervous when I go to this bar my friends hang out in.
They live on the other side of town and I have to walk all the way
there through the streets at night and there are usually a lot of
drunk and aggressive people. I know that I should avoid this way
but it's the most direct way to the bar and if I go to the
sidestreets or alleyways I know I'd be asking for trouble. I want
people to stop pushing me around when my friends aren't there, like
if I go to the bathroom and people push past me or bump into me and
don't apologise. I don't know why but I get a bad vibe from most of
the people there and it makes me nervous and uneasy around my
friends. They don't seem to worry about it I guess its because they
live on the other side of town and have a quieter journey to get
there. They are also more confident than me but im hoping that with
your training I can change that and I really understood your
secrets of the alpha male newsletter well but im having trouble
relaxing because of the vibes I get in this bar. What should I do
if I get someone who pushes me around verbally or starts physically
pushing me? I really would appreciate your advice.

Thanks Steve"

MY RESPONSE>>>

Okay Steve. You are right there about the route you take. Let me
explain why. As you said, the more you start going off course the
more chance there is you will become a victim of an unprovoked
attack. A dark alleyway where nobody can see or hear much is a
pretty good place for someone to spring an attack. The other thing
I would point out is that you shouldn't worry that you get nervous
on the way there. As long as you follow my tips on commentary
walking you will be completely unnoticed by pretty much any thug or
attacker.

You want to stop people pushing you around, and I completely
understand that. I don't think there's a martial artist or combat
student that doesn't have that priority in their top 5 list. The
important thing to remember from what I said about alpha
personalities is they are not intimidated by attackers. If they
push you, they just go into their fence stance, or if they feel the
situation isn't dangerous, they string the attacker along with
dialog. The very last thing they do is to strike, or to get
aggressive. These are signs of weakness and fear. The louder
someone barks, the more fear is taking control of them.

The only reason you feel nervous is that you are worried what might
happen with someone that you don't like the look of or you feel
suspicious about. If you haven't read my self-defense ebook, I
suggested you get a copy ASAP, the more you understand about an
attacker or an aggressor, the more you realise that an attack isn't
going to happen unless you MAKE it happen.

Pushing is pretty common in crowded places such as bars. Both
accidental and as an intentional attack. Its easy to deal with
because its completely harmless, its only dangerous when you get
intimidated and you push back. Then you have shown you don't have
the alpha personality type.

To stop someone pushing you, the best thing you can do is to turn
180 as they push. This at least changes their position and makes
them feel pretty useless, since there's nothing they can really do
to "start" the fight other than pushing. Even if you cant really
change your position, don't get intimidated or if you do, don't
push back. It's a weak attack and it lets them see that you don't
have anything to beat that move.

READER'S QUESTION >>>
"I was trying some of the A-frame defenses and I noticed that a lot
of them you could just change into attacks. That way you would save
yourself having to go into the defensive position in the first
place.

Melanie Black"

MY RESPONSE>>>

Thanks for the tip Melanie, I can see what you mean but there are a
few reasons that you don't want to attack with the A-Frame.
First of all it's a defensive technique. Its designed to take heavy
strikes and blows and practically zero the impact and damage to
your head. Since the swinging left and right punches are so common
in street fights, it makes sense to protect the left and right
sides of your head the most. So its not really been designed with
an attack in mind.

Next, although you can see what's happening, it restricts your
sight and field of vision. Basically, its harder to see your
attacker and ways out of the situation. The more you can see, the
better. The fact you have to protect the sides of your head means
you cant use your arms for much else, after all, the idea is that
you keep your arms still to damage your attacker.

Finally, the fact that it's a defensive strategy means that its
something you use as a last resort. You might think that all
strikes are as a last resort, and this is true, but the A-Frame was
developed to deal with the fear and panic as well as just defending
against strikes.

Keep the idea of using the A-Frame as a defense firmly in your
mind. Don't run the risk of getting hurt because you attacked when
you should have been defending. Remember, the A-Frame does the
damage for you.

-------------------------------------
THE 5 WORST (AND MOST COMMON) ATTACKS
-------------------------------------

Who would have thought that the dumbest attacks would also be the
ones people use the most? Good news for you, there are ways so easy
to defend against this kind of attack you wouldn't believe me if I
told you. First, lets see the top 5 attacks...

1)    THE HAYMAKER PUNCH

ATTACK>>>

The big right or left hand is really old. But for some reason, that
doesn't stop people using it as an attack. The biggest problems
with this strike are almost too many to go through, but here are
the biggest. If the haymaker was a cat burglar, it would be wearing
bright yellow and playing a boombox at full blast. You can see it
coming from a mile away. You would think that if it takes so long
to throw this technique, it must create a lot of power. Well that
is just pain wrong. If you have ever seen this strike, you will
have probably seen the guy using it fall flat on their face. As far
as balance goes, it doesn't have any and it sure as hell doesn't
have any accuracy. But for some reason, it feels like it's the best
punch to throw when you're pissed off with someone and that's
probably why it will still be used 500 years from now.

DEFENSE>>>

The key with this defense is in the timing. This might sound as
though it could go wrong, but the advantage is you get a lot of
warning with the haymaker strike. Not only do you get warning, but
the "business end", the attacker's fist, takes the longest to reach
you. What you want to do is step in and block when you see they are
going to strike. You may have heard the expression "watch the
opponent's eyes". I don't know who said this and why it caught on
but its complete bull. If you are trying to work out when they will
strike, you might as well be watching the Superbowl. Watch the
attacker's shoulders. If they don't move, then they aren't about to
strike you. When you see one of their shoulder's drop slightly,
they are aiming for you, so get your block ready and move towards
the attacker, out of the way of danger.

2)    THE WINDMILL

ATTACK>>>

The windmill is either fast left and right strikes or big left and
right hands. Its like a double version of the haymaker and that's
why its twice as bad. As well as having the bad points of the
haymaker punch, the windmill is an even bigger waste of energy. Its
like sprinting badly with your arms. 10-15 seconds of that and you
sure wont be in the mood to run or fight.

DEFENSE>>>

Just as with the haymaker defense, the worst place to be when the
attacker strikes is at arms length. Get far back or in close where
the strike cant get at you. Using something like the A-Frame helps
here. You want to block strikes coming left and right at random
without having to do very much, giving you a few vital seconds to
plan a counter attack.

3)    FOOTBALL TACKLE

ATTACK>>>

The football tackle is pretty much asking to hurt. But still its
used in almost every fight. Its not complicated, so maybe that's
why its so popular. One thing I'll always remember from competitive
martial arts was that you must NEVER go in forwards with your head
down unprotected. The football tackle is a stage worse than that,
because it usually is used with speed. What was an attack can
usually turn into something more like self harm.

DEFENSE>>>

Your job is pretty much done for you already. You're not going to
need to do very much, but its important to note there are two
options of defense. The first is if your attacker is moving in
quickly or takes you by surprise. In that situation you want to
move forward and trap them beneath you, so they break your fall.
The other situation is if they push you into a wall, or it doesn't
happen as fast as the previous situation. Then you want to drive an
elbow to the back of the head, but if that is out of reach, a knee
strike is just as effective. Be careful with these strikes, they
deliver a lot more power than you would think.

4)    THE PUSH

ATTACK>>>

The push is a sign you have an attacker who doesn't like you, but
doesn't have the balls to hit you either. You'll die faster from
boredom than being pushed. I guess its not so much an attack, but
more a way of an attacker trying to get you to fight back first.
Either because they don't have the balls, or they just cant use
their brain to think of another more useful attack.

DEFENSE>>>

The push doesn't need much of a defense. It just needs a way that
you can reposition yourself to walk away or to strike if the
situation escalates. Since you don't know what could happen, there
is a simple technique I use called the fence. The fence is a
complete topic on its own, but for this defense all you need to
know is that you put your hands at about waist height in front of
you. This creates some kind of distance to let the attacker know
you want to calm the situation and also to give yourself some
protection without escalating things.

5)    THE GRAPPLE

ATTACK>>>

Grappling is a combination of the football tackle and the push.
They want to hurt you but they cant really think of what to do.
Usually, the grapple turns into some kind of headlock, or maybe
even a football tackle.

DEFENSE>>>

Grappling is harmless, but it can get dangerous if you go to ground
or you get caught in the mounted position. The important thing to
remember is that your attacker is using an attack that makes them
CLOSER to you, so you need to defend by creating some kind of
DISTANCE. Don't try and grapple back, although that's what most
people do and they end up rolling around on the floor.

Those are the most common attacks, they're not the only attacks you
could have to deal with, but the law of averages says that will be
the scenario you have to deal with 95% of the time.

The 10 BIGGEST Mistakes Guys Make In A Street-Fight

Here Are The Top 10 Reasons Why Men Get Hurt In
A Dangerous Situation, When Being Threatened Or When
They Are Involved In a Street Fight - And How To Make
Sure YOU Avoid Every One Of These Deadly Common Mistakes...

Mistake #1 - YOU PANIC OR HESITATE!

Have you ever noticed how many guys just FREEZE
on the spot when they are being threatened?

  Of course you have.

Do you also know what happens next?

That's right ... they get HURT! Whenever someone
is in a dangerous situation, he will have DOZENS of
questions running through his head, like...

  - Will this guy attack me?

  - What should I do?

  - What will he do NEXT?

  - Does he have a friend waiting to ambush me?

  - Does he have a knife?

  - Am I in danger?

Because most guys don't have the EXPERIENCE to know
what to expect and what to do, a dangerous situation
takes them completely by surprise ... and they PANIC!

Instead of doing SOMETHING ... they do NOTHING!

They can't control the adrenaline rush, they
aren't sure how to respond, they lose focus ... and
they HESITATE!

If you don't ACT in that moment of TRUTH, I can
guarantee you 100% ... you'll get hit, injured and
end up in hospital!

Mistake #2 - YOU DON'T TAKE PRECAUTIONS

If someone is arguing with you, shouting at you
or insulting you, the first thing you MUST do right
away ... is to get your guard up!

  I see it every week...

Someone is arguing over absolutely nothing, has
had too many beers and instead of being smart he just
ARGUES right back ... TURNING an already heated
situation into a dangerous threat!

In a potential fight ... most guys just DON'T TAKE
THE NECESSARY STEPS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES!

They do the exact opposite! They FUEL the argument
by PROVOKING the other guy back and behave overly
AGGRESSIVE to show how tough they are.

That's the WORST thing to do!

Instead, you should take a good DISTANCE, get
your GUARD up, assume the DEFENSIVE STANCE and use
"THE FENCE" to PROTECT YOURSELF!

Those are the RIGHT things to do!

If your opponent crosses the "Line In The Sand"
(gets too close to you), you will be PREPARED because
you TOOK the necessary PRECAUTIONS TO SHIELD YOURSELF
from a potential attack.

Mistake #3 - USING THE SUCKER-PUNCH

The most common attack on the street is the
"Sucker-Punch" or the "Haymaker". It's usually a huge
right-hand SWING or HOOK to the face.

Everybody uses it as a their first-strike choice,
and hardly anybody knows how to defend themselves
against it.

But it's a very BAD strike!

It is SLOW, PREDICTABLE and you WASTE a lot of
energy! If you miss your target, you will not only
have used up a lot of stamina and power ... you will
also be WIDE OPEN to a counterattack and be completely
thrown off BALANCE!

The ACCURACY is VERY LOW (!) as well, sitting
at nothing more than 5% ... meaning 1 in 20 Sucker-
Punches will hit it's target.

On top of that, you can pretty much see a
"Sucker-Punch" coming from 10 miles away.

If you want to hit someone ... the Sucker-Punch
SHOULD BE YOUR LAST OPTION!

Mistake #4 - PUNCHING WITH YOUR FIST ... INSTEAD OF YOUR PALM

  The Street is different!

You are not in a gym, a dojo or in a ring. That's
why the RULES CHANGE! Your objective is to get out
of a potentially dangerous situation unharmed ...
as quickly as possible!

Sometimes, you may need to use your fists to
get there!

But if you MUST strike someone, NEVER use a clenched
fist to punch. ALWAYS USE A PALMSTRIKE!

The bottom half of your palm is SOLID BONE and
has a large surface area. When you hit your opponent's
head, jaw or nose ... you won't feel a thing while
he will be KNOCKED-OUT in an instant!

But your fist is made up of lots of small, individual
bones that break very easily ... your knuckles being
the most vulnerable! If you strike, it will be like
punching with individual fingers instead of a 1 WHOLE
BONE like your palm.

Also, ,ost guys just don't have that EXPERIENCE or
TRAINING to execute a punch properly! If you hit someone
hard enough with a fist to knock them down or knock
them out, you will most definately BREAK your hand!

A palmstrike is easy to use, does just as much
damage as a traditional punch and KEEPS YOU from
injuring your hand!

Mistake #5 - THINKING IT TAKES MUSCLE & SIZE TO WIN A FIGHT

The BIGGEST misunderstanding in our society is
to think that you need BIG MUSCLES to *win* a fight.

Let me clarify this once and for all:

In a potential fight, the single most important
element is SPEED! The bigger you are and the more
muscles you have ... the SLOWER you'll become.

  I'll give you an example...

  BRUCE LEE!

Now this guy was built like a ripped toothpick:
He could amass an INCREDIBLE POWER behind all his
strikes ... and execute them at LIGHTNING-SPEED!

There was no way you could catch him, block
any of his strikes or land a hit. He was just
TOO FAST.

I still see so many guys beefing up because
they THINK they'll get the extra advantage ...
whereas they do more harm than good.

Being STRONG doesn't mean you can hit hard.

In fact, most punches, kicks and takedowns will
only become powerful if EXECUTED PROPERLY!

That's why TECHNIQUE & SPEED is the LETHAL
COMBINATION in a fight! You won't only be able
to strike faster than your opponent can react ...
one hit will be SO POWERFUL it will hurt like
getting hit by a truck!

Mistake #6 - NOT BEING PROFESSIONAL

If you are in a situation where your safety
(or your LIFE!) is at risk, you MUST be professional
and can't let your emotions, anger, frustration or
ego take over.

In those 60 SECONDS before a potential fight, you
need to do EVERYTHING by the book and STAY FOCUSED!
Nobody will cut you any slack, you MUST be professional
or you will get hurt!

But most guys don't make the RIGHT DECISIONS in these
situations...

1) They find it too akward to just walk away or
think they must stand up for themselves when there
  is no need for it.

2) They use force when they don't have to ... or they
don't use it when they should!

Being professional is what ultimately keeps you
out of harms way and allows you to walk away with a
few scratches ... or leaves you with a bruised face
and broken bones.

Mistake #7 - THINKING YOUR BLACK BELT WILL PROTECT YOU

Guys who have been practicing a Martial Art will
fall in the same trap very quickly:

  FEELING INVINCIBLE!

I see this in a lot of Martial Artists, especially
with new students who haven't had a lot of REAL fighting
experience.

Dojos and Martial Art Schools used to be GREAT
places to learn effective Self Defense ... but
unfortunately not anymore.

Most have turned into Belt-Factories with only
a single purpose: Making you stay a member as LONG
as possible and extracting AS MUCH MONEY along the
way as they can.

You will rise through the ranks very quickly,
even though you might not have reached the necessary
standard to qualify. As long as you pay the fees,
you'll get what you want.

Obviously, you must learn an entire ARSENAL (!)
of techniques, moves and takedowns that are completely
NECESSARY ... to make you keep coming back and pay up.

If you are able to defend yourself on the street
when the shit really hits the fan isn't a TOP PRIORITY
AS IT SHOULD BE!

You will learn a lot of "junk" and "filler" material
that are too complicated, confusing and not even
necessary. But it keeps FUELING your ego, BOOSTS your
confidence and makes you BELIEVE you are now a real
fighting-machine.

Oh boy, this will get you in so much trouble and
danger most guys are too BLIND to see it.

Even if you have a black belt ... YOU HAVEN'T
BEEN PREPARED PROPERLY FOR THE STREET!

Your first objective on the Street isn't to fight
like the Martial Art Philosophy teaches you ... it's
to FIND A WAY OUT 'WITHOUT' using violence first!

Just because you have been practicing martial arts
and have been taught how to fight doesn't mean you can
defend yourself on the street!

Those are TWO very different things!

Mistake 8 - ALLOWING YOURSELF TO BE BULLIED

Getting bullied is one of the most FRUSTRATING
things if you don't know what to do about it.

But here's where the problem lies:

If people bully you ... it's YOUR fault! A bully
has not just singled you out because he doesn't like
you or is jealous.

That's just a motive or a reason for someone to
bully you ... but it's not the TRIGGER!

What gives a bully the go ahead is YOU ALLOWING IT
TO HAPPEN!

Bullies only single a certain TYPE of person out
they are jealous about or want to pick on for whatever
reason.

But it's because people see you as an EASY TARGET
that won't fight back! It doesn't just happen at
random ... You ALLOW yourself to be such a victim!

It's that perception that can make your life
FEEL miserable. It's when you don't have what I call
"The Willingness To Fight" or "Cocky Confidence" that
KEEPS bullies AWAY from you!

If you ever got bullied, picked on or someone has
taken advantage of you ... then we need to work on
this right away!

Mistake #9 - NOT KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT TO DO IN A FIGHT

Most people don't have a mental GAMEPLAN
when they have no other option but to fight.

If you don't know PRECISELY what to do next in
a dangerous situation, you will get hurt.

But because most people don't have a CLEAR,
STEP-BY-STEP GAMEPLAN in their head that describes
EXACTLY what to do ... they panic, freeze, hesitate
... and end up with a banged up face.

That's why you ALWAYS have to be one step
ahead of your opponent who wants to harm you.

It's not enough to just KNOW all the various
strikes, kicks and takedowns you 'COULD' use in
a fight.

If you have too many options but no PLAN or
DIRECTION where to take this fight ... everything
you know and have practiced will become useless.

you MUST know where you are going in a fight
and what to do next ... or you'll be toast!

Mistake 10 - NOT GETTING HELP

This is the biggest mistake of all.

This is the mistake that keeps most men from
EVER being able to defend themselves on the street
and in dangerous situations.

I know, guys don't like to make themselves look
weak or helpless. We don't like to ask for help.

  Hey, I've been there myself.

Let me tell you a little about me and how I
figured out the best ways to defend myself out
there...

About seven years ago I became fed up with my
martial arts school and all the B.S. around it.

I was so sick and tired of seeing students
being taught what is best for the DOJO ... not
what is best for the student.

  So I quit!

One night I was out with a friend, and I saw two
guys arguing, pushing each other's chest and finally
starting to fight. One guy got steamrolled, the other
had a broken nose.

...and they were arguing because they looked at
each other funny. Great!

I can still remember that night...right then and
there I made the decision to do whatever it took to
learn the most effective ways of self defense!

Not just the best techniques, moves and takedowns
to knock a guy out instantly ... but absolutely
everything that gets a person out of harms way.

Well, after a lot of hard work and trying all
kinds of crazy things, I finally figured it all
out.

I can not only give a guy the beating of his life
if I really have to ... I can also walk into ANY
room and make even the biggest and toughest guy
think he better not mess with me. And the best part,
I don't even have to use my fists to do that.

It has been a very rewarding experience. I no
longer feel that sick, insecure feeling... like I
must fear for my safety when I get approached by
a mean looking jerk or drunk on the street ...and
I might end with blood all over me.

I know that anytime, anywhere, I can go out and
feel 100% safe!

I've written a book on the topic, and I've done
seminars on both coasts of the United States...
and taught tens of thousands of men all around the
world.

...But the REALLY GREAT news is that I now
publish a free email newsletter three times a week
that teaches guys how to defend themselves on the
street ... with or without using force!

It's free, I'll never share your address with anyone,
and you can easily remove yourself anytime with no
hassles (and no, I'll never pull any of these tricks
where I send you a bunch of unwanted junk email when
you try to remove yourself).

Of course, it even gets better than that...

In addition to my free email newsletter, I also
have a killer downloadable eBook that you can
download right away and be reading it in literally
MINUTES from right now.

It's JAM PACKED with dozens and dozens of
specific strategies for taking down an attacker,
neutralizing threats, dealing with bullies,
effective striking techniques, and how to make
sure everybody thinks TWICE before they want to mess
with you.

Killing and the angry mob

In the world of Martial Arts and self defense, there are plenty of
guys and instructors who love to talk about the "KILL" factor.

"You attacker is a cold blooded murdering psychopath. They are
going to kill you, your family, your dog, your friends and use your
bathroom without flushing UNLESS you repeatedly strike them until
they stop breathing."

I've heard the equivalent of that many MANY times by these
"experts".

And you know what, it's not just BAD advice, it is actually putting
you in MORE danger too.

It's a reasonable question. When is it justified to kill someone?
I get asked about this a lot, and I have some questions from
readers on the subject. First, Daniel asks about vigilantism and
mob rule.

QUESTION FROM READER>>>

"don't know if you've seen the movie summer of sam,but its about a
group who accuse some one of being the son of sam killer & set out
to kill him. These people are unpleasant characters them selves &
could be described as bully's. What's your view of lynch mobs, are
you totally justified in killing them like in the movie straw dogs?
Another martial artist has described them as people with a video
game view towards your life & mine who don't care about the guilt
or innocence of there target & get a thrill from violence. If you
were an alpha male with rumours spread about you would your
toughness deter such idiots?

Daniel"

MY COMMENTS>>>

Well Daniel, its something we all worry about. What would happen if
a group of people got so angry that they set out to kill me?

First, there's the mob. Usually a mob gathers because of
vigilantism, as you said. But one of the things you should ask
yourself is, why do they have a mob?

Sure, there is strength in numbers, and that is important in
violence, but there is also something else.

If we could all think rationally all the time, and be clinical and
professional all the time, we wouldn't do or say most of the things
we didn't mean.

In other words, if people really wanted to kill someone, they would
do it. A mob is loud, rowdy and draws a hell of a lot of attention.
Hardly something that will utilize the element of surprise.
So why do they do it?

Because they don't have the BALLS to do it themselves.

They need a mob to DISSAPEAR into. They simply stir up rumors,
throw suggestions out there and most importantly...

They do WHAT THEY WANT WITHOUT THE RESPONSIBILITY.

They might have suggested to beat the person to death, but they
didn't do it, they just suggested it. The person who did it wont
believe they took part either, everyone else suggested it, not them.
Psychologist call this DE-INDIVIDUATION.

It basically means:

"I'm not doing anything wrong, it's everyone else in the mob, I'm
just an innocent bystander".

With that attitude, nobody is going to say STOP, this is getting
WAY out of hand. They will be too worried about getting in the line
of fire themselves.

BUT...

There is something else that fuels a mob, besides de-individuation.
It really is linked with vigilantism.

That's the fact that people are usually just ANGERED or SCARED and
this causes them to take justice into their own hands.

All they really want to do is FEEL SAFE.

They aren't all doing this because they enjoy the VIOLENCE, they
are usually just so intimidated or angered that they turn into
vigilantes.

The answer to Daniel's question is simple. Killing someone in the
moment is NEVER JUSTIFIED.

What I mean is, you cant PLAN or THINK about killing someone in
self defense. Its only until LATER that you can judge whether or
not it was justified.

If you kill someone ACCIDENTALLY, whilst 3 people attacked you for
no reason, you will go before a judge, they'll see it wasn't your
intention to kill someone.

On the other hand, if you start THINKING and PLANNING on killing
someone as a DEFENSE, well that not only screws things up for you
in the court room, it means you are thinking of the WRONG kinds of
self defense.

Killing is attacking, not defending.

The question you really have to ask yourself is not "What do I do
if I'm attacked by a mob of angry people who want me dead?"
It should be "Why the hell would an angry mob attack me if I
haven't done anything wrong?"

Sure, there are the unfortunate cases of mistaken identity, and
yes, there are places where there are people so ignorant they will
dislike you for no reason. But on the whole, the lines you should
be thinking along are:

What are the best ways to AVOID that kind of attack?
How can I spot that kind of situation before it happens?
What can I do in that situation?

The answer to the last question, how do you stop it, isn't to have
the intention to kill.

If it's a case of mistaken identity, do you think they will feel
warmer to you when you threaten to kill them?

I don't think so.

Showing that you are willing to fight in a situation where you are
outnumbered, or people are angry with you is not a good solution.

You may well have to FIGHT BACK, but don't let them THINK you will.

If they see you fight back, it shows you are becoming defensive
about something. They are much more likely to think you are the bad
person other people make you out to be if you start to get
defensive about it.

Don't get me wrong, you do have the right to DEFEND yourself, but
I'm guessing you want to come out alive?

Well, bargaining or showing that you aren't going to do them any
harm is a much better solution than CONFIRMING their suspicions
about you.

You wont get out alive if you make the angry mob... well ANGRIER!
Knowing when to strike is important in any area of self defense.
Much more than if you have to kill someone.

The problem is that most people will never find out that the "KILL"
factor in most martial arts is just to make the instructor look and

Defending yourself with the Elbow strike.

Elbow strikes: the basics

Elbow strikes are the most useful and effective close-quarters fighting striking attack.
In a self-defense situation, or just a plain old street fight, they quickly turn the tide in your favor.  But don't use them unless you are prepared to justify your actions in court.  They do a lot of damage.
When you throw elbows in a fast, slashing manner, they cut up your opponent's face.  Directed against the jaw or the temple, they easily cause a knockout.

When to use elbow strikes

Close-quarters fighting

The elbow strike is not a long-range attack. Unless you are in the clinch, forget about it and use straight punches instead.

Although boxers use close-range hooks and uppercuts when in close with an opponent, it is better to use your elbows in close-range self defense situations. There are several good reasons for this:

  • You do away with the risk of breaking your hand, thumb, or wrist.

  • Learning how to throw powerful hooks and uppercuts without damaging your hands requires practice. Elbow strikes are simple and intuitive.

  • Generally, if you are assaulted by a larger attacker, he will try to get in close. You want to damage him enough to make him back off so you can make your escape. Unless you're a trained fighter, your weak arm punches won't phase him.

Targets

Choose your targets wisely

Although elbow strikes hurt no matter where you land them, results will be much more dramatic if you choose a vulnerable target.

When you throw a rapid, slashing flurry of elbows, you want to target the face. Each blow will probably cause a cut. This can demoralize your opponent and take the fight out of him.

If you load up on the strike and get your body weight behind it -- like a boxer will when throwing a close-range left hook -- you want to keep your eyes on his jaw and hit him right on the side of his chin. This is potentially a knockout blow.

Don't bother hitting soft tissue if you can reach his head and face. When the fight gets to the point where someone's grabbing you and preventing you from escaping, it's serious and you have to do everything you can to get him to let go so you can leave.

Finally, if he has his hands up in a boxer's guard, you can smash his hands or wrists right against his head and do damage that way.

Striking surface

Hit with the point of the elbow

ElbowThe point of your elbow is formed by the proximal end of your ulna bone. It is hard and tough. Use it and you will damage your attacker without injuring yourself. The only caveat is that you should avoid hitting the thick parts of your attacker's skull (but that applies to every other strike as well). If you avoid the hard part of the skull, the worst that will happen to you is that you get cut on your opponent's teeth; but sometimes you have to take it in order to dish it out.

No matter which elbow strike variation you use, you can hit with the point of your elbow. It can be tempting to use the forearm, but you'll do much less damage. Furthermore, if you are using the forearm, you are probably in a ground and pound position. Remember that you may have to justify your actions to a judge; if you can ground and pound him, you can probably also get up and escape.

Types of elbow strikes

Three main variations

Practice on the heavybag
  1. Horizontal elbow strike

This is very similar to a hook punch, except you keep your forearm close to your upper arm and you land the elbow instead of the fist. In fact, boxing trainers say that if a hook misses (short), the elbow lands instead.

Throw this attack with your lead hand, just like you would the left hook.

  2. Rising or Downward elbow strike

A rising elbow strike is very similar to a boxing uppercut. You can use this technique with either your lead or rear hand.

The downward strike is similar to an overhand right -- you usually throw it with your power hand.

  3. Back elbow strike

This is purely a self-defense move. Theoretically, if someone grabs you from behind, you can twist slightly to create space, then delive the strike to his head. In reality, you have little chance of landing this attack effectively. Leave this move to the professional wrestlers and other entertainers.

If you miss a wild haymaker, you might be able to whip your arm around into a back elbow strike and catch him as he tries to clinch with you, but it's better to avoid missing wild punches in the first place.

How to practice

Learn how to strike with power

Waving your elbows around won't do much for you. You have to learn how to create power in your strikes. It doesn't matter what strike you use -- punches, elbows, open palms, hammer fists, etc. -- the process of generating power is very similar for each.

If you are unfamiliar with proper striking technique, you can benefit from some expert instruction. You'll learn how to step into a strike, pivot with a strike, and how to incorporate some defense into your offense.

Use a heavybag

Hitting the heavy bag is one part of the process of learning to generate power.

But you have to protect your elbows from the bag, or you will get abrasions and bruises. Bruises and scrapes don't make you tough, they just limit the amount of training you can do. So be smart: use the proper equipment during training.

Get some elbow pads and slip them on before you practice your elbow striking techniques. You'll be able to work out harder and more efficiently. Do check out the video below,it is a short tutorial  on how to achieve an effective elbow strike.

How to win a street attack

Let’s say you’re out with your buddies (or maybe a lovely young lady) having a good time, when all of a sudden some jackass shoves you. You didn’t do anything to instigate the guy, but it doesn’t matter.
There is a special breed of males, that when inebriated, start fights with random people. This breed, when found in their wild habitat, are often accompanied by their similarly boneheaded buddies.
Or perhaps you and your posse end up in a rumble with the Socs because one of your buddies killed a Soc while trying to save Ponyboy from being drowned by a douche bag Soc. Man, I hate them Socs. Stay golden Ponyboy.

What can you do to prepare for a street brawl and protect yourself in this type of situation? Here are 8 simple steps you can follow to avoid ending up in the emergency room after a street fight.
1. Wake up! When someone threatens you, snap to attention. Be aware of your environment. Look for objects that you can use for weapons. Searching out a place to escape to is especially important if you’re outnumbered.
2. Try to defuse the situation. Try to talk with the guy and calm him down. If you did something unknowingly that offended him (like looking at him funny), then apologize. Don’t let your ego get in the way of apologizing for something you didn’t do. Your first goal should be to avoid fighting. Maintain confident body language. Don’t show the guy you’re afraid.
3. Walk away. If talking to the knucklehead doesn’t work, start to leave the scene. But maintain alertness and walk away backwards, still facing your opponent. If he’s a no-good, yellow-belly rat, he’ll attack you from behind.
4. Assume a fighting position. If the jerk is still threatening you and you have nowhere to go, assume a stable fighting stance. Spread your stance to about shoulder width-apart and slightly bend your knees. The goal is to maintain balance so you don’t end up on the ground. Keep your hands up to protect your face and clench your teeth. A solid punch to an open mouth can lead to a broken jaw.
5. Defend yourself. The goal is to defend yourself from violent and unjustified aggression, so don’t be afraid to fight dirty. If you have any object to use as a weapon, use it. This can be anything like a chair, a bottle (extra man points for first breaking the bottle and then thrusting the jagged part at your opponent), or a 2X4. Here are some other techniques that could be used in this sort of situation:
  • Knee to the groin. No explanation needed as to why this is effective.
  • Low kicks to the knee, groin, or abdomen. Kick like you’re kicking down a door, using the bottom of you foot. A solid kick to one of these areas can incapacitate your attacker long enough for you to get away.
  • Headbutt to the face. Your forehead is one of the hardest bones on your body. Use this to your advantage by headbutting your opponent hard across his nose. If done correctly, you can do some serious damage.
  • Throw a punch. If done correctly, an overhand punch can put your attacker out of commission.
6. Take punches effectively. While you should do your damnedest to avoid getting punched, you can’t avoid them all. If you have to take a punch, strive to absorb it in a way that minimizes the impact and damage..
  • A punch to the head. Move towards the punch, tighten your neck muscles and clench your jaw. By moving into the punch, your attacker may miss the mark wide to either side. Absorb the punch with your forehead (remember how hard it is?). If your attacker hits you there, his hand will be hurting, and you’ll have minimized the damage to yourself.
  • A punch to the body. Tighten your stomach muscles, but don’t suck in your stomach. Try to shift so the punch lands on your obliques rather than directly in the stomach or vital organs.
7. Give your best war cry. While defending yourself, make as much noise as possible. There are two reasons for this. First is the intimidation factor. Yelling may distract and intimidate your attackers, leaving you a better chance of getting in some good blows or getting away. The second reason is to draw attention. The more people who gather around you, the easier to call a douche bag’s bluff.
8. Make your escape. After you have incapacitated your attacker using the methods described above, get the hell out of there.

Winning a street attack

In a street attack, you are not pre-informed or is it pre-planned on your part as the victim.A street attack can cause injury or death, and land you in jail.On my Martial arts street blog today,I got hold of ten steps to take when faced in a street attack.Enjoy below:

1.Be aware of your environment. Aside from various objects that can be used as weapons and traps, knowing where to run is very important – especially when you're outnumbered. Use all of your senses fully. Don't just look around directly– use shadows and reflections to your advantage.

2.Err on the side of caution by assuming the following: Your opponent is a better fighter, and has backup; They have a blunt or edged weapon, such as brass knuckles or a knife; and you will be hit. Be ready to take a punch.

3.Walk away from the fight. Although perhaps obvious, the most sure-fire way to "win" in a street fight is to not fight one altogether. In the vast majority of cases, there will be some sort of warning before actual physical aggression occurs. If you can resolve a dispute without having to fight, do so. Don't let your ego get in the way of your safety. In a verbal dispute that has the potential to become violent, stay calm and take a firm but apologetic approach. Be neutral and non-confrontational. For instance, if a guy accuses you of looking at his girlfriend, you can just apologize and say that she looked like someone you used to know. He now has only two options:

  • Accept your apology, and maybe even apologize back. If this happens, all is well. Is it that hard to apologize to some jerk (even if you don't mean it) to avoid a fight? If the situation seems to be resolved, remember never to turn your back on the aggressor. It is wise to take 2-3 steps backward and then turn. Always be ready for a sucker punch.
  • Continue the threatening behavior. If he continues to threaten, repeat the apology. Look sincere, but not weak! If he continues to threaten and close the distance on you, say that you do not want any trouble. Be firm verbally. Use terms like "back off" or "keep away". Get louder as he gets closer.
4. Stay at a distance from your opponent, allowing the distance to shorten only to strike. The attacker needs to close distance to strike you. Staying just out of their reach means they cannot hit you. Try to stay on an opponent's 'outside' (i.e. towards the side, rather than directly in front). Remember that they can be an obstacle to themselves. Keep your guard up. Even if it's only by extending your hands in a 'stay-back' type of pose, it places something between you and your opponent. Alternatively, stay in close with your opponent. You only have strength and control as far as your arms can reach, and most people find it uncomfortable and unexpected for someone they attack to be right up in their space.

5. Stay as relaxed as you can, and breathe deeply. The more relaxed you are, the harder you will strike and the less susceptible to injury you will be.

6. Try to flow with your opponent's movements. Hunting and pecking for openings will only get you hurt. Feel their movements and openings will present themselves.

7. Know when and how to run:

  • If you are outmatched or outnumbered, or just not willing to fight, then run at the first opportunity towards public, well-lit areas where there will be others. When escaping in the middle of a confrontation, try to impede your opponents as much as possible:

    • Block them with obstacles. If you can put a trashcan, car, bus, or other barrier between you and the attacker, all the better.
    • Run between narrow paths, such as between cars on a parking lot, run up a narrow stairwell and fight downward (make sure you have an exit), or run (and fight) through a narrow hallway. This will prevent the opponents from ganging up on you.
  • If you know you won't outrun them, don't try. If you are caught (especially with multiple attackers), you are more likely lose the fight due to a simple lack of energy. The one or two opponents that sprint with you may be just as tired, but those jogging behind will be fresh for the fight.
8. Establish your balance so that you can stay on your feet. Spread your lengths to shoulder width and bend your knees. Going to the ground is very dangerous to the untrained fighter, especially if the opponent has weapons, back-up, or ground-fighting experience. If you find yourself tangled up with them, break away any way you can.

9. Defend yourself. Respond to attacks by aiming for any open, vulnerable spot without exposing too much of yourself. Use "reasonable force" (see Warnings below).

  • Damage to "soft spots" (face, temples, throat, kidneys, solar plexus, etc.) may eventually incapacitate your opponent. Scratching, biting, clawing, spitting, pulling hair and attacking eyes can also be used. You are defending yourself from a violent aggressor, not fighting in a ring with rules. Use anything you can to ensure your safety. Poke the eyes, and if there are others ganging up on you, hit with outstretched fingers into the front of the throat, always remembering to keep your fingers closed together. Splayed hands are weak hands!
  • Hitting the nose blurs the eyes and causes pain, and it just might leave your opponent dazed long enough to get away.
  • Consider using low kicks if you are at arm's reach. Low kicks should be aimed towards shins, ankles, the insides or back of calves or thighs and knee caps (if their legs are straight). Do not aim higher than knee or waist height because they will grab your leg.
  • Attacks from behind are difficult to see and avoid, and in a real fight, it is not cowardly to strike from behind. Watch your back, and attack that of your opponent(s).
  • Head butt your opponent fast and hard. Bring the top your forehead down across his nose and face. The "Glasgow Kiss" has defeated many experienced fighters not prepared for it.
  • Learn to grapple. A successful grapple can put you in control, even if the attacker is much stronger or faster than you. One way is waiting for them to make a move, and then counterattack. Grappling as a counterattack almost never fails, if done correctly.
10.Be as loud as possible. Don't be afraid to scream for help, or yell out "Fire!"(people are more likely to respond to fire because they'll want to watch, they probably won't want to get involved if you shout anything else) This brings unwanted attention that your attacker would rather not have. It also distracts them and could make them panic, making them less conscientious fighters.
11.Escape as soon as your opponent(s) are incapacitated enough to allow you to run as described above. Phone the police or alert some other authority as soon as you can. Let them know where you are, where the attack occurred, and describe your attackers.

TEN SELF-DEFENCE IMPLEMENTS;THE PALM STRIKE

Today I will be talking about the top ten self-defence implements or body parts.Beginning from the bottom of the list,I will be talking today, about the palm strike
The palm strike can be a very devastating strike when properly applied. The palm strike is always performed with an open hand fingers extended. Contact is made to the target with the heel of the hand. It is a very simple technique that can be devastating. Even when been applied by people small in stature. Palm strikes can be applied in an upward vertical motion, a horizontal motion, or a downward vertical motion. Palm strikes can be used in combination with lock holds to break joints or bones. A horizontal strike to the sternum, kidney, groin, nose or ear can be very effective. However, the most popular type of palm strike is an upward thrust to the chin. This strike is very easy, because you transfer all of the energy directly from the ground, straight up through your body into the palm of your hand. It is a direct upward thrust where the palm of the hand makes contact directly with the chin. its effects are felt instantly by the attacker. This strike will force the jaw closed and force they headed back. When the head is forced back it will move the body out of position creating an imbalance in the person's posture. It will also allow you to get a second strike in as the individual will not be able to see your next strike. This is the perfect time for a knee or fist to the groin or a second palm strike to the sternum. You may also have time to drive heel of your foot into the knee of your attacker. If you practice these defensive attacks it is possible to get all three strikes in under a second.
Another good way to apply this technique is to step on the foot of the attacker and simultaneously use a Palm strike to the inside or outside part of the knee. It is very important to remember, you want to drive through the target. Think of your hand as a rock. If you drop a rock into the water, the rock will not stop or bounce back. It will fall to the bottom. Don't hold back use all your energy and drive through the target area.
If an attacker has you by the neck with arms outstretched. There is another effective technique, you can use. In an almost simultaneous attack, you want to raise your knee into the groin or leg of the attacker and then without hesitation, use a double palm strike to the elbows of the attackers extended arms. Your chin, will act as a lock to the attacker's hands. When you strike, keep your elbows tight to your body and push straight up on the elbows of the attacker. This will hyperextend the elbow, forcing them to release their grip.
It is often said that the bigger an opponent is, the harder they will fall. This may be true, but if you don't know how to go about causing an assailant to fall, then it is nothing more than a useless saying.
Close Combat
Sometimes no matter what you do, it is impossible to avoid a fight. You may try to prevent an attack from happening and resolve the situation without violence, but a person who is determined to assault you might not be willing to back down. These are the moments when a self defense weapon such as pepper spray or a stun device will be truly useful, but even if you are unarmed, you must be able to protect yourself from being injured or even killed.
Hand to hand fighting, also known as close combat may be your only option. Knowing a few basic techniques can help you survive an attack without getting seriously hurt.
Pressure Points
The human body has many different points throughout that can cause a great deal of pain when hit properly. A direct hit on these areas can put a quick end to a fight. There are many of these to aim for:
A blow that lands squarely on the forehead with sufficient pressure can knock an assailants head back and cause whiplash. Hitting the eyes is not only very painful, but it can also temporarily damage the criminal's vision, giving you time to get away. Punching the nose can lead to a fracture, bleeding and the end to a fight. Striking the collarbone with sufficient force can break it, thus disabling your attacker completely. A kick to the knee or groin is usually enough to bring an immediate conclusion to any confrontation. Keep these key areas in mind if you find yourself under attack, and strike back quickly, aggressively and with as much force as you can to defend yourself.
Using The Right Body Weapon
Depending on the part of the body you intend to strike, there are two standard methods of attack. When hitting a smaller area such as the nose, eyes or groin, it is better to use a larger weapon, such as a full fist, elbow or your foot. This will concentrate a large amount of force on to a small area to do the maximum amount of damage possible.
Conversely, when aiming for a larger target such as the stomach, head or chest, a more pinpointed strike is ideal. Larger body parts can absorb a hit from a fist or elbow a little easier than it can a more direct and focused blow. One of the best ways to do this is with a knuckle punch. It is very similar to a normal punch, but you are focusing the power of the strike into your knuckles instead of your entire hand. Use this technique by starting to make a fist, but folding your fingers back only part of the way so that the knuckles extend out. Strike your larger target directly with the knuckles to give an intensely concentrated and powerful strike. Do not, however, use this style of hit on a person's head, as the hard bone could damage your hand.
Palm Strike
Another useful combat technique is the palm strike. For this you hold your hand open, and use your palm to make a hit. The power in this come from incorporating your entire body into the strike. Don't just swing with your arm, start with your feet and lift yourself upward to create a tremendous amount of force. The energy that begins at your feet will move upward and end at your palm, which will make a powerful weapon when used to strike the head, chest or back of your attacker.
If you are attacked, it is essential to react quickly and use anything you can to your advantage. The techniques discussed here are meant to help give you some basic self defense knowledge. To make them effective, it is essential to practice and get ready for any type of assault. Learn more by taking a hand to hand combat class from a qualified instructor.
